Slash saved GnR

Recommended Posts

The last two times GnR came through my state I went to the shows. One had a crowd of about 5,000. The second one had a crowd of 7,500.

Izzy was a special guest at the first show. Duff was the special guest at the second show.

Slash rejoins GnR and they are suddenly the hottest Rock ticket in the world and are selling 50,000 tickets a show.

If not for Slash’s return, how do you explain the HUGE spike in attendance. From 7,500 a night to 50,000? The numbers don’t lie.

I am looking for real opinions. Not the moronic comments from the couple of numbnuts who just come here to troll and badmouth anything Slash does.

Leave your personal opinions about Slash and Axl to the side. Leave the trolling to the dipshits. And share why you think the attendance has skyrocketed.

If Axl toured 2017/2018, without Slash, for the 28th leg of the CD tour, he would have played to crowds of 5,000-to-10,000 people (in America).  With Slash, it’s 50,000 people a night.

And yes. Obviously Slash playing with Myles or as a solo artist is only going to draw a few thousand people to his shows. This topic isn’t about his solo career.

I will put it in fast food terms so GNR fans can understand. Axl may have red hair but Slash is the Ronald McDonald of this band. You don't get to a billion served without Slash.

slash is more like the hamburgler, stealing the limelight from big red ronald any chance he can get.

No. It's the image of Axl and Slash together + marketing. None of the live experiences with GNR you mentioned were even advertised as staging a something along the lines of a reunion. And indeed, none of those were Slash, but you need Axl too. To have that huge machine you need both of them - Duff is an extra. I don't know if it would be just as big without him, because I believe he is supposed to make it feel like - and it does come out kind of this way - that it's indeed a GNR reunion and not just Axl and Slash getting back together - or them joining Axl's band.

But yeah, it's just a visual thing, a cultural reinforcement massively advertised with high level marketing. Nothing but a musical expression of the cultural revisionism the west has been experiencing for the last few years. It's like if the world had indeed ended in 2012 and since them we have been just remembering all the stuff we had, entering a gradually more bizarre scenario in which history is stuck and all we can do when we try to move forward is to rehash or retell our past glorys. Sure, the concert is good and it last 3 hours, but you've already heard Sweet Child O' Mine a brazilian times man, and guess what, it ends the same every time. Everyone is just there to see Axl and Slash together, so it feels like back when the world still hadn't ended and everything was great.

There is a certain magic to the idea of slash and duff playing with axl again. It capitalises on that AFD era "most dangerous band in the world" image they portrayed back then.  So much so that some people felt annoyed there was no Izzy or Steven.

If you couple it with the fact that to the average Joe slash is the only gnr guitarist that matters, putting out records consistently that impress them but never reaching the heights he did with gnr.

And then also couple that with the fact that most people outside forums dont like Chinese democracy. Couldn't name a member the linups from 99 onwards and nostalgia will kick in and play a big part.

That saved gnr as a nostalgia act but it won't save axl as an artist. He needs to release music but 10 years between albums and we've had nothing. This is officially the greatest hits cash grab era. It feels like thankyou and goodnight. guns-n-roses.jpgI'd love to be wrong about this.

The only think Salsh "saved" is his bank account .

Maybe it`s not even his bank account. More like he saved Ms/Mrs. Ferrar from starvation .

Half of money he earns goes to her. What a cuck .

Commercially: Saved, at least early on

Yes, because GnR are the ones who needed to be saved. It was Axl, the Beta and Ferdinand who had their kids starving and a millionaire divorce to pay for. Because they didn't already have enough money for touring ChD for 15 years.

"But but but, they needed to be saved because after 15 years touring they weren't able to milk the cow at the same level anymore"

lol

So Axl alone wasn’t marketable as GnR. Inserting Slash made him GnR again...

so by your logic yes Slash saved GnR

Slash, and to a lesser extent Duff, restored credibility to the whole operation.

The setlists aren't a hell of a lot different than what they were towards the end of the Island Of Misfit toys era.  It was still obviously all the singles.  The old GNR tunes like 'Yesterdays', 'Civi War' and 'Used To Love Her' that worked theri way back in were still present.  The thinking that the return of Slash meant they would just pretend the CD era never happened didn't pan out.  Those songs are still there.

So why have things going from "Up Close And Personal" (a total embarrassment to a band with their legacy) to stadiums in this country?  It's Slash.  To say otherwise is foolishness.

All Slash did was throw a shit Band-Aid on a shit decapitation. By the 10th year of the lol reunion tour they'll be back to Vegas. And the funniest thing is he couldn't have done anything on his own, so he doesn't even deserve credit for that.
