i did it with good intentions, the main thought being "this guy probably doesnt give a fuck about christmas but i hope he still has a good week"

In Ireland nobody gives a fuck. You say Happy Christmas to everyone and they say the same. 

 

Just like all the non-Irish celebrate St. Patrick's Day because it is a fun holiday and nobody cares about the religious side of it. 

 

Thank fuck. I'd hate to live in a place where I feel compelled to say happy holidays but if that's the easier option then I don't blame you.

Has anyone ever actually gotten annoyed or mad when you guys said merry christmas to them? I'm not religious and I don't care about christmas, but I still say it to people with the general sentiment being "have a nice week/holiday season" and they do the same.

At the end of the day it doesn’t take much effort. And even if you had made an honest mistake and said “merry christmas”, the dude would have probably said “thank you” or something like that.
