  1. Are other band's communities as fucked up as ours?
  2. That dude never got over that initial rush of attention and has so desperately been trying to hang on to that spotlight. I remember reading somewhere he put "so apparently I'm known as the Chinese Democracy guy" as if it was some hardship. Might have been the single biggest "methinks the gentlemen doth protest too much" example in GNR history.
  3. Yeah, Axl really overthought that one. Its works so much better as a tight, 3 minute rocker.
  4. Here has been my thought since seeing the picture of that box set. Imagine this. Axl patches it up with Slash an Duff. They tour in 2016 and it's both well received and wildly successful. So much so, the tour continues in spurts through all of 2017. It's obvious to all at this point, they guys can work together professionally and this, better or worse, is the future of GNR. So it's late fall, early winter of 2018. Axl puts together a 3 or 4 CD set of the best quality and most interesting stuff from the CD sessions for a Christmas release. Saying he realizes that nothing will ever really be commercially viable to the masses from that whole misadventure. But here is everything we did, released for anyone still interested in that whole saga, but mostly...released for the the hardcore fans. The spin is that this closes the book on that chapter of GNR. Enjoy it, and now we move on.
  5. As Bart Simpson says, "thats what's known as...committing to the bit."
  6. I just did a quick check of several of the torrent sites. Nada.
  7. So true. I remeber showing my brother a tracklit of CD when it came out and told him to give it a listen. This was the conversation : "Wait, he wrote a song about Madagascar? The land mass, or the cartoon?" "Neither. Its abut how he struggles every day against an unjust world out to wrong him at every turn." "What is I.R.S. about? Tax law?" "Nope. About how he tried his damndest to keep the band together, but Slash is an asshole." "I'm going to guess Slash is also the 'Prostitute'?" "No. Curveball there. That's who Axl will NOT be, because he will be god damned if anyone will tell him what to do." My brother keeps looking at the CD for a few seconds. Then hands it back to me. "I think I'm good."
  8. Yeah, no shit. I can't believe there are that many actual songs. I've been saying for 15 years that Axl's Magical Mystery Vault was all bullshit. Love to hear this stuff.
  9. Hey, can someone hook a brother up with these jams? 'Hardschool' has me listening to CD tunes for the first time in a long ass time. So I would love to hear these. Thanks.
  10. Interesting theory. Honestly, I'm just happy to have a song from that era with an actual refrain.
  11. I like it. It's catchy. Kind of touchy, lyrics wise, since we know who this song is obviously about.
  12. He's running a competent and professional touring operation for the first time...lets face it, ever, and actually seems happy. Again, for perhaps the first time ever. I don't think he has too many complaints right now.
  13. I think it would be tough to market. Smaller venues for sure.
  14. They will tour arenas for the rest of their days so long as it's still Axl, Slash and Duff. 2 years from now, 10 years from now. It won't matter. The fanbase is built in and not going anywhere. The NITL tour was in 2016. I find the contention that another tour even as late as 2026 has trouble filling arenas to be a flawed premise.
  15. I disagree. Stadiums were likely a one shot deal, attributed solely to the layoff. But if they announce a tour in 2021, with absolutely nothing new (which is what I expect) they will still fill basketball/hockey arenas on the name alone. It's a night out. Far lesser bands mine that same path on the regular.
  16. Slash, and to a lesser extent Duff, restored credibility to the whole operation. The setlists aren't a hell of a lot different than what they were towards the end of the Island Of Misfit toys era. It was still obviously all the singles. The old GNR tunes like 'Yesterdays', 'Civi War' and 'Used To Love Her' that worked theri way back in were still present. The thinking that the return of Slash meant they would just pretend the CD era never happened didn't pan out. Those songs are still there. So why have things going from "Up Close And Personal" (a total embarrassment to a band with their legacy) to stadiums in this country? It's Slash. To say otherwise is foolishness.
  17. Buckethead's stuff is some of the best stuff on that album. So he's not wrong.
  18. Agree with all of this. Frankly, I was for re-doing the cross for the UYI line-up too.
  19. She's still getting a nice payout, but obviously is missing out of the real bonanza. No pre-nup...how stupid can you be?
