New Bumblefoot Interview - says he's been waiting impatiently for GNR US tour

http://guitarinternational.com/wpmu/2011/01/20/ron-%E2%80%9Cbumblefoot%E2%80%9D-thal-talks-gnr-vigier-guitars-and-pyromania/

Excerpt:

Guitar International: GUNS N' ROSES is gonna be on the road in February, right?

Ron: We're supposed to be and suddenly there's silence. I don't think it's gonna happen. Figuring February is weeks away and I've yet to see a single confirmed date. It's the kind of thing where you have a tour that's coming together, but it's so complicated at this level with managers and booking agents and different promoters and venues and itinerary and the production. The manager has to figure out how to get the gear from point A to point B all the time, without us going broke, and making sure all the crew is available. With everything, all it takes is just one link in the chain to get weak and everything unravels. So, I don't know what the status is of this U.S. tour that I've been impatiently waiting for. It's been five years since we've played the U.S. Last year we did some acoustic shows in New York in February, but as far as a real tour, we haven't done that. A couple of shows in May and September of 2006 and then a fall tour from October to December.

Guitar International: What does that mean for you? Does that mean you've got to keep February and March open as far as anything else you want to do?

Ron: That's always the dilemma. Things come together so quickly with GUNS N' ROSES that I just get a week's notice.

Guitar International: Jeez.

Ron: In fact, when I joined the band, I only had a week to learn all the songs and then hit the road. And to learn the "Chinese" songs, they wouldn't give me a copy because they were so worried about leaks. I had to learn all of that stuff on a pair of headphones in the rehearsal room on a laptop just listening and taking notes.

Guitar International: That's like learning guitar in the '50s and '60s with a turntable. Crazy.

Ron: Yeah, so with GUNS what'll happen is I'll get a week's notice. They'll say, "All right. It's happening. We're FedExing your tickets." The thing is, for the rest of the world, if you want to plan something, it's months in advance. What would happen is I would plan a tour for five months from now and by that point GN'R would say, "All right. It's time for us to do something," and I would have to cancel. It just becomes impossible to make plans. All I can do is make very short-term plans that don't require too much commitment and if I have to break them, it's not gonna hurt a lot of people. I've shied away from playing live and doing shows because of that, because if I have to cancel a show, it could disappoint hopefully only a few hundred people — okay, maybe 100. [both laughing] If it's just a meet-and-greet or something like that, it could be the same, but it's not like they spent a lot of money and made a lot of plans. It's just not as big a thing to cancel. So, I've been doing more meet-and-greets and not doing any performances other than quick jams. Like I played in Sydney, Australia and jammed with FOZZY.

DJ Ashba said last night in one his chat sessions about planning to tour, but obviously not in Feb, and no elaboration beyond that.

Don't hold back Ron, tell it like it is :rofl-lol:

Love his wordings here, undertones of resentment too maybe?

I don't know Ron's history, but I take it he's always been one to call a spade a spade?

I wouldn't say resentment. I just think he's starting to realize Axl has no intention of firing him, so he's becoming less afraid to speak his mind.

Good on him.

Ron is my fav. member of new gnr...he has the right attitude and seems gracious to be able to make his living playing music for people...

Hopefully we can enjoy a Slash AND BBF recording one day (refer to his interview where he uses the "AND" term)...

I hope Ron quits

I hope he doesn't. I thought he was brilliant when I saw GN'R live, and I'd like to listen what he can do with Axl and the band (though I know this day probably won't ever come).

If there is no new album planned at all, I hope Ron tells Axl to fuck the fuck off and leaves.

As much as it was an awesome show and I love the band, I don't have ANY interest in seeing them playing AFD every two years.

I guess the notion of Guns putting out an album before the tour was false. I really think that we either will get the album during the tour, or not at all now, who fucken knows anymore. We have reverted back to 2007 status where nothing is known of the what is happening with the next record.

They'll probably disband shortly. The record is out, it wasn't well recieved, they toured, for the most part it was a really good tour. Now what? Axl will probably be too scared to put out another record, could his ego take another bashing? Will Ron and Tommy keep hanging on? I suppose they get paid regardless, it's their job after all.

Here's an idea, Axl bites the bullet and put out everything he's got, tours again before he's 50, go out with a bang and reform the AFD line-up for one last time! Or, get as many of the "members" of "Guns N Roses together", and play a massive show, each player taking their shot for their music! This might even make Axl feel like The Man!!

Or, keep plodding along with the CD tour until Axl has no hair left and just stands at the top of his ego ramp doing a very slow 720 degree spin for the whole fucking show.

Unfortunately, I could see him do just that...

Such a waste of talent, him, the musicians, the songs, the name, everything.

I really, REALLY hope Ron leaves if Axl makes it quite clear that he has absolutely no intention of writing another album.

You don't hire talented musicians and have them only play other people's music when you are called Guns n' Roses, this is not a friggin' pop touring band. You either create new music or you stop using the name.

I have absolutely no interest in who Axl is gonna blame this time. At this point I just want to know if something is going to get released and / or written.

I do. His limp dick excuses and blame game when shit doesn't go right has been responsible for some of the best threads ever.

Bumblefoot: "We've yet to write as a band."

Hahaha. I laugh at those people who say they want a record comprised of the works of the current line up. Its not a real line up, its not a real collaborative effort. This isn't Tool or U2 or even Megadeth. Axl doesn't even sing when he does show up to the studio with the other members.
