Matt Sorum talks GN'R breakup

Recommended Posts

"My book will be a lot better than theirs [slash & Duff], and I'll tell you why: I remember everything, and they don't remember shit!

I told Duff, I said, 'Duff, how are you gonna remember to write a book? You can't even remember where we were last night?' I said, 'I'll write your book for you. And here's the title: 'Duff McKagan: The Shit I Don't Remember By Matt Sorum'. And every time I would tell my stories, I would go, 'Duff, are you tape-recording this right now? I don't want my stories coming out in your book.'

Slash's book, guaranteed, there's five years in the middle of Slash's book that are just missing. And I'll tell you what era that was: 1990 to 1995. Those guys don't remember jack-all. And if you notice, his book, it sort of book ends on the early years, and it jumps forward to the breakup. There's a lot of shit that went down [in between]. I could fill in the blanks and I could tell about hundred thousand better stories than they have. And you know what?! I just haven't had anybody give me enough money to make me spill the beans."

Should be an interesting take on the break up from another point of view, if Matt does decide to write a book

It would be another piece of the puzzleand another perspective...the more books from people who were there the better IMHO....not sure Axl would be too happy to hear Matt's side of the story......come on Matt write your book!

Matt is only going to make himself look the best out of all of them. Judging by his comments of Duff's book, I don't see his book being the "truth."

Not the truth just another perspective.......

I'm very interested to see Matt's perspective as he was the most sober person in GNR at that time. I'm sure he didn't take sides and knows exactly what he's talking about. I hope he does write his book.

Matt is an obnoxious loudmouth and no one cares about his side of the story, or the story in general.

Speak for yourself only

Matt didn't take sides then, but sure as shit has now..........

The statement he made is a careful construct to add value and validation to what he has to say. Sweet timing too, the year of rrhof. Relevance will not exceed what it is now.

however.... as long as it doesn't talk about how he kept his cock hard for days with a diet of coke, meth and viagra while he plowed a field of glorious sluts on Axls behalf

I always sort of respected Matt's views, because he got there late. He was a fresh set of eyes.

He seemed to be the only one who would look at Axl's behavior and say "wow, are we really supposed to tolerate this?"

The others, I think, were so used to Axl they were numbed to it all. Just shoulder shrugs by the end. But Matt at least seemed to try and inject some sanity into the proceedings.

Not that I consider Matt's view of things as objective, valuable or whatever... But he does have a point. They didn't remember SHIT!

All about the money... He was fortunate enough to have a brief time with the band, but it will be biased, because he never got to know Axl during the rough times..

He lived on their high and snorted his way through the days.. Rememberance or not, matt hasnt s clue.. He hung with slash and duff gettin fucked and thats basically it..

We all know Axl was tearing apart, through the attention and all, and had issues, but Sorum had and never will be unbiased.. So its sort of pointless, he will just reaffirm the story..

Axls book is the only thing that will give people the true other side of the story and that is what I am waiting for.

There is no such thing as an unbiased account of anything.

If I could hang out and have a drink with anyone from GN'R it would be Matt. What a dude.

Really.. Matt ?? You would pick Slash, c'mon.. !

I personally never liked Matt, he is too "hip cool", smartass, wannabe bigshot in his way of acting.. I'm sure he's a nice guy, he just comes off as a major douche too me, and I always prefered Steven's drumming.. :)..

Think I'm gonna re-read Slash's book, after I finish with Keef's.. Its been awhile.. :)

Nah ... I'm too big of a Slash fan -- I wouldn't want to meet him. I'd just feel like a dork.

I really admire Matt for the work he does with kids and with Adopt the Arts. He is a class act.

And of course, I prefer Steven's drumming.
